Category: Living green walls
In this exceptional project, we transformed a conventional meeting room at Burgy Bouwbedrijf into an oasis of calm that brings nature inside in an immersive way. The desire was to create a space where meeting becomes more than routine, it becomes a refreshing experience that improves wellbeing, creativity and focus.
The design centres around three lush green walls. Imposing plant facades are placed against both side walls and the sloping back wall, with drooping varied planting with various leaf structures. The sloping back wall leans into the room and creates a sheltered, pleasant atmosphere. The planting is rich, layered and designed to evoke the feeling of being in the midst of nature, rather than just looking at it.
The sloping wall beautifully incorporates the projection screen, which can be rolled out when needed. Below the sloping rear wall, a large glass panel provides a striking visual connection to the library space below. Through this opening, the green wall extends seamlessly to the top of the bookcase in the lower level, creating a visual and conceptual connection between the two levels. This continuity enhances the sense of depth and harmony in the design.
Above it, the fitted ceiling completes the experience with a beautiful image of the Dutch sky. This cloud-patterned surface brings a daylight atmosphere to the space even when the sun is not shining. It visually enhances the space, anchoring it in a local identity while contributing to the biophilic concept.
A clever technical feature of the design is the integration of the irrigation system for the green walls. The water management system is completely hidden behind the bookshelves in the library below. This allows the system to be placed close to the planting for optimal performance, without compromising the clean and natural aesthetics of the space.
This meeting room is more than just a space for discussion; it is a statement. It shows how interior planting can completely redefine the character of a working environment. It is a space where people can breathe, think and connect. Not only with colleagues, but also with nature.
The result is a space that feels like a clearing in the forest, yet functions as a high-quality, modern space for meetings and consultations. By combining thoughtful design with exciting planting, we have created a place where nature is not just decorative, but a fundamental part of the experience.
