The impressive vertical green wall, measuring 2.70 x 4.0 m (HxW) and covering a total area of approx. 11 sqm, was completed in June 2022 in the foyer of a conference area on the 4th floor in Mainz. The selection of plants, consisting of croton, chlorophytum, asplenium nidus, schefflera ‘gold capella’, begonia maculata, philodendron scandenz, and philodendron scandenz ‘brasil’, with a total of 299 plants, creates a colorful pattern. The system used is NGW (Natural Greenwalls) from Denmark. A simple click system with the advantage that the plants can grow on the vertical plane in horizontally mounted pots. This ensures less stress on the plants. Each plant pot has its own dripper. A reservoir system in the plant pot ensures that the plants are supplied with water for two weeks. A waste water pipe does not direct the excess water into the next plant pot, but collects it in a drip tray. This has the advantage that, for example, pathogenically infected plants cannot infect others via the irrigation system. Planting is done in semi-culture with a purely mineral substrate. The wall greening is additionally supported in its growth by plant lights. |
