Category: Living Green Walls
Within the entrance, lobby, and lift zones of a high-rise mixed-use complex in Frankfurt, a total of approximately 60?m² of living green walls was installed by GEFÄSSERIE – Die Wandbegrüner.
These vertical plant installations, with the Mobilane LivePanel system, create a lush, welcoming atmosphere in otherwise neutral circulation areas, transforming functional spaces into immersive greenery experiences.
The main entrance is flanked by vertical plant walls that frame visitors’ first impression, providing a striking visual and sensory impact. Inside the lobby, vertical green surfaces around the elevators reinforce a sense of calm and orientation, while softening the acoustic environment.
The walls contribute to improved air quality, reduced noise levels, and a feeling of natural refuge, even in a busy transit zone. This green integration is further enhanced by the ceramic façade composed of individually differing rods. The contrast and harmony between the natural greenery and the structured, textured façade create a perfect interplay between building and plant wall, reinforcing both architectural character and biophilic experience.
This installation is part of the interior concept of FOUR Frankfurt, a landmark development redefining the city’s skyline. Rising up to 233 meters, the four futuristic towers combine high-end offices, hotels, apartments, gastronomy, retail and public amenities into a modern, sustainable and socially diverse urban quarter. The living walls reflect the architectural and ecological ambitions of the project: to create open, connected and nature-integrated spaces that enhance both aesthetics and wellbeing. As a public-facing element, the greenery contributes to a broader biophilic narrative embedded in the identity of the entire development.
The plant palette was thoughtfully selected to deliver visual variation and robustness in low-light, high-traffic interiors. Dense foliage, varied leaf forms, and seasonal hues introduce dynamic movement and depth across the vertical surfaces.
Despite the relatively small footprint, the installation achieves high visual and functional impact, demonstrating how targeted planting interventions can enrich daily user experiences in compact circulation zones. The green walls serve as natural focal points, elevating interior quality and reinforcing a living, future-oriented identity, aligned with the vision of FOUR as “the new face of the city,” where architecture, ecology and urban life converge.
