Copijn – THE NETHERLANDS

Category: Vertical Green

World leading food company Danone opened a new global headquarters in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. A flagship office for Danone’s “One planet. One health” vision.

The building meets high standards of sustainability and is designed to provide a healthy work environment for its 800 employees. Plants are added to the interior as an important asset for improving vitality. The ultimate eye catcher is the striking vertical green wall in the central atrium. The 20 meters high wall is the green lung of Danone’s office and connects all floors of the building.

With minor adjustments the structural wall was reinforced to carry the weight of the Wonderwall green wall system. This plant wall system comprises of a recycled foam backing fitted with various layers of felt cloth and a high tensile fabric cover with plant pockets. The plant pockets are planted in with a selection of low maintenance decorative plants. The plant wall is equipped with a fully automatic irrigation system regulated by a network of smart moisture sensors.

The atrium of the building has a glass facade and roof. This provides an enormous amount of natural daylight to enter the building. Due to this daylight there was no need to install any additional grow lighting. That is quite unique for a plant wall of these proportions.

With the vertical green wall we have created a low maintenance green piece of art. With only a few visits a year we maintain the wall and contribute to a healthy work environment for Danone’s employees and visitors.
