The Black Forest indoors At the heart of Germany’s iconic Black Forest are the headquarters of Testo, surrounded by a vast natural landscape and striking modern architecture.
But nature doesn’t stop at the building’s edge; it continues inside. Drawing inspiration from the forest’s ever-changing nature, where trees sway in the wind and light constantly shifts, this project brings living nature into the built environment.
Two unique greening elements have been created at the Testo headquarters: hanging gardens suspended in one atrium next to the stairs and an impressive vegetation spiral winding its way up three floors to the skylights in the second. A 55-metre-long spiral of cascading plants is suspended through the central atrium, connecting three office floors in the form of a vertical green sculpture.
This architectural intervention transforms the space into a sensory experience. It improves air quality, enhances acoustics and provides opportunities for reflection and inspiration. The project was designed by aplantis using the Natural Greenwall system and realised by Sumser Raumbegrünung.
