Green Fortune GmbH / Element green – germany
Category: Living Green Walls
The Living Tree project is located in the Radisson Collection hotel in Berlin. The project replaces a huge aquarium – the Aquadom – located there before. The concrete structure is reused, but plant installations and the lamella construction as well as the rest of the hotel interior is all new.
As with all big projects, the final outcome is the result of many involved parties. We would especially like to thank Dan Perlman design for the general design concept and KPM3 for project management. Many more can be mentioned, like Lichtvision for light design, Nawrocki Alpin for climbing and Element green for the beautiful horizontal planting.
Green Fortune’s role has been to find a suitable solution for the vertical greenery in the Living Tree structure, and to adapt it to the special circumstances in this project with reference mainly to height.
Green Fortune finds inspiration in nature as well as in fiction. If someone comes to think of overgrown tree trunks in the forest, or the tree from movie Avatar, it is not a sheer coincidence. Green Fortune\’s overall mission has since the start been to bring nature to cities, by adopting plants and cultivation to modern urban life.
For the Living Tree, Green Fortune has chosen to work with an adopted version of our Plantwire concept. The Plantwires are here one-sided as the original inner elevator in the concrete structure was not restored. Also width, height and ways to add fertilizer has been adopted to the circumstances on site. Regarding plant selection, our idea has been to have different areas giving different volumes and shapes.
The idea has been to imitate different natural living conditions, like on the side of a rock for example with different space for roots among cracks of different sizes. Overall, the ambition has been to create a stunning piece for all visitors to the hotel, and at the same time to add to the indoor climate with oxygen and humidity. Imagine what we can create together, when we find our inspiration both in fiction and in nature!
