This workplace planting project was developed for the newly built office of TODAY Development, located in the KBF building in Amsterdam — a modern and forward-thinking structure recognized for its sustainable design and award-winning architecture. The building was named “Office Building of the Year 2024” by Architectenweb and meets both BREEAM Excellent and Paris-proof standards.
With its abundance of natural daylight and clean lines, the space offered the ideal foundation for a carefully considered green design. In close collaboration with TANK Architects, who were responsible for the interior concept, we created a planting scheme that is fully integrated into the overall spatial design.
The greenery is not an afterthought, but built into the architecture and furniture itself. Through custom joinery, planters were seamlessly incorporated into desks, sofa’s, and dividing elements — making the plants feel like a natural extension of the space, not something added later.
Special attention was given to materiality. The shape and rhythm of the pottery respond to the building’s geometry, while the color palette of the planters echoes the grey carpeting and wooden wall panels. This creates a visual harmony between the plants and the rest of the interior, allowing them to feel fully embedded in the architectural language of the space.
Rather than being purely decorative, the plants help define different zones in the office — softening transitions, providing visual comfort, and adding a sense of calm and liveliness throughout the day. In a space designed for focus, collaboration, and well-being, the greenery plays a quiet but essential role.
This project reflects our belief that workplace planting is most effective when it’s integrated into the DNA of a space — both visually and functionally. By working closely with the architects from the start, we were able to help shape a workplace that feels human, grounded, and alive.
